If you choose to end your Families trial and subscription without purchasing, you will become a free LastPass user which means you’ll have access to your vault, including all of your passwords, addresses, notes, etc. No data will be lost. Shared folders that you created will no longer be shared with others and only you will have access to those items. You will no longer have access to shared folders that were shared with you (but the owner of the folder will).
Q: What does LastPass Families include?

Q: Will Families be available on all browsers?
A: For the best experience during the early access program, please use Families on Chrome. Once LastPass Families is publicly released, it will be available on Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, and Opera, and on iOS and Android devices. You may also get early access using the web version (LastPass.com, rather than the extension) on any browser.

Q: I already have a Teams or Enterprise account. Can I join LastPass Families?
A: Yes, however you will need to sign up for Families with a non-corporate email address. Once you have both accounts, you can link your personal (Families) account, unless your admin has a policy in place to restrict that ability.
Q: Can I move my Teams or Enterprise account to Families? Will all my shared folders be moved?
A: Right now, we don’t support transferring Teams and Enterprise users or shared folders to a Families account. We hope to support this option soon.
Q: What happens if my Families subscription expires? Do I lose my data?
A: When your Families subscription expires, you will become a free LastPass user which means you’ll have access to your vault, including all of your passwords, addresses, notes, etc. No data will be lost. Shared folders that you created will no longer be shared with others and only you will have access to those items. You will no longer have access to shared folders that were shared with you (but the owner of the folder will).
Managing a Family
Q: How do I add a family member?
A: From the Family Manager dashboard, click “Add Family Member” in the top right. On the menu that appears, enter the email address and name of the person you would like to invite. When you submit, the person will receive an email inviting them to join your family. If the person already has a LastPass account, use the email address associated with LastPass. After you invite them you can make that person a family manager if you’d like.
Q: Can I add someone who doesn’t have a LastPass account?
A: Yes, if the person doesn’t have a LastPass account, they will be able to create one from the email invitation that asks them to join your Families subscription.
Q: Will an existing LastPass user need to add their sites and information into the Families account?
A: No. When you invite an existing LastPass user (Free or Premium) to Families, all of their stored sites, notes, and settings will be in their Families account. They won’t need to move or transfer any information when they join.
Q: As the family manager, do I have access to my family member’s accounts?
A: No, each family member will have their own LastPass account and only they will have the ability to access their personal vault.
Q: How do I access my family manager dashboard?
A: From your vault, click the ‘house’ icon or expand the menu and click “Manage Family” to see your family manager dashboard, where you can invite and remove family members, and see your subscription settings. You can also click here.
Q: What is the difference between a family manager and family member?
A: Family members have their own LastPass account, including the ability to create shared folders with other family members and designate emergency access contacts. Family managers are able to invite and remove new users to the Families account, in addition to all the functionality that family members have.
Q: Can I make designate other family members as family managers?
A: Yes, you can select as many family members as you’d like to be family managers. At any given point, there must be at least one family manager.
Q: I’ve reached the 6 user limit in my family? Can I add more users?
A: If you remove a user (via the family manager dashboard), you will immediately be able to add another family member. However, once you have 6 members, you can not pay to add more to that family. If you require more than 6 seats, please upgrade to our Teams offering.
Q: Can two Families subscriptions share with each other?
A: You can share individual items with users in another families subscription, but you can not share folders with those users.
Q: Can I leave a family?
A: Yes, you can remove yourself from a Families subscription by visiting My Account and selecting Leave Family.
Q: Why does my vault look different than one (or more) of my family members?
A: We’re in the process of rolling out a new look and structure to LastPass, as we announced back in July. Some members of your family members might see this new look while others do not. In their vault, you’ll notice some of the items (like passwords, sharing center, and emergency access) are in a different order, as well as new items like passports, membership IDs, and other things that were previously found in Secure Notes. That’s all part of the update, which we’ll be rolling out to all users soon. Stay tuned to our blog for the latest on what is changing and how.
Joining a Family
Q: What happens when I accept a Families invitation?
A: When you join a new family, your user experience won’t change and your subscription type will update from “Free user” or “Premium user” to “Family member” or “Family manager.” You will have access to an enhanced Sharing Center so you can create shared folders with family members. If you’re a family manager, you’ll see “Manage Family” in the left-hand menu of your vault which is where you can add and remove users to the family.
Q: I already pay for my own Premium subscription, will I be refunded?
A: If you already have a Premium subscription and you join a family, the prorated length of time left on your Premium subscription will be deducted from your Families purchase price.
Q: Can the family manager see all items stored in my vault?
A: No, your LastPass account is private and unique to you. Only you have access to your master password and the items in your vault, unless they are in a Shared Folder. All items in a Shared Folder can be seen by others with access to that folder.
Q: What happens when I leave a Family, or I am removed?
A: When you are removed from a Families subscription, you will no longer have access to shared folders that were shared with you or the items in those shared folders. Any folders that you shared will no longer be accessible to family members. All passwords, notes, and items in your vault will remain there, and your account status will revert to Free, unless you upgrade to Premium. Any emergency access contacts that you setup will remain setup when you leave the family.
With Families, you can create unlimited shared folders between family members. You can get started in the Sharing Center and creating a new Shared Folder. Once the folder is created, you can edit existing items to be included in that folder, or add items as you save them. Note each item can only be added to one folder at a time. From the Sharing Center, you can also manage which family members have access to the shared folders, whether it’s read-only or edit permissions to add/remove items. Visit our User Manual for detailed information on sharing.
Q: Do I still get a shared folder to share with up to 5 other users as a Premium user?
A: Yes, existing Premium users will maintain all legacy sharing capabilities, including the one shared folder. New customers who purchase Premium on or after August 3rd will not have a shared folder.
Q: What happens to items in my shared folder if I leave a family and become a Free user?
A: When you move to a Free account, you’ll no longer have access to the shared folder and users who were invited to that folder will lose access, however those individual items will remain in your personal vault.
